NEIGHBORHOOD SAFTEY POST:

Hi everyone, we're aware of the recent situation with teenagers wandering our neighborhood late at night, banging on doors, checking for unlocked cars, throwing eggs, etc. The police are aware of the situation and have increased their patrols of the area. We also wanted to put a little info together to let everyone know how the HOA would like to handle things.

Firstly, please do not attempt to engage any potential criminals. Shouting, chasing, and threatening them will only scare them off by the time the  police can arrive. You're better off silently calling 911 and explaining the situation. Hopefully the authorities can get here before they can run off and hide as they have been.

We've also have a list of things we can all do starting right away to help our community:

1. Keep front and back porch lights on all night to eliminate potential hiding spots and increase the chance of catching perpetrators on camera.

2. WITHOUT ENGAGING, look for opportunities to take identifying photos from your window or safe place like a car, and send them to us so we can collect and forward to the authorities.

3. If you haven't already, think about installing a doorbell camera or other type of low cost security solution. Pete Toal has a list of options below.

4. We encourage homeowners to be actively scanning from their windows after dark to notice anything out of the ordinary, and alert authorities if you do.

5. Leave car doors locked and remove any valuables, including garage door openers. If they steal the door opener, they could potentially come back the following day and have easy access to your home while you're away.

6. If you do happen to know the kids in question, please message me privately and we can try to send officers to seek them out at home.

HOME SECURITY OPTIONS:

I tried to keep in mind families on a budget, so I did not include the more expensive option for Ring and Nest as their newer models are an additional $100 each. All options are easy to install but also the homeowner could pay an additional fee for professional installation if they chose. It literally took me less than 20 mins to install our doorbell camera and at max another 15 mins for the security cam.

Doorbell Cameras: Note that each camera also comes with a pro service which allows recordings to be stored for longer for later reference. There is a yearly fee for that service, but to have the functions most homeowners want, there is no monthly or yearly fee. Homeowners can see the camera directly on their phone at all times by simply clicking on the designated app for each service.

Secretary

The Secretary is responsible for documenting the meeting minutes.

Treasurer

The Treasurer is responsible for the financial report and ensuring the Board stays on budget. They draft the proposal in the fourth quarter for the following year's budget.

The covenants dictate the board will have three members.  Monthly meetings are usually held on a weekday and can meet either at a member's house or the clubhouse. The meetings are open to the other association members, but they will not be able to participate in the meeting itself. The board itself will focus on the day-to-day operations of the HOA. Most of our communications will be over email.

The Board's responsibilities include: architectural approvals, discussions and decisions regarding vendors, ideas and making decisions for budgets, maintenance, projects and capital expenditures.

Amenity Sharing:

We realize it may be confusing to share a website with another neighborhood. Parkside and Madison Park not only share a border. They use our pool, we use their playground/lake, and they often walk over to the food trucks at the Clubhouse. We have a legal document in place signed March 31st, 2006 that binds the Madison Park neighborhood with Parkside, Lakeshore and Lakeview. Lakeshore and Lakeview are still under declarant control. Once all four neighborhoods are operating as an HOA we will begin our Amenity Sharing Board. This Board is designed to share each neighborhood's amenities and help each other with our financial burdens. This Board will begin in the future, but Parkside and Madison Park have decided to start laying the ground work. Madison Park is a neighborhood with large common areas, and hefty landscaping fees. Parkside has a much smaller common area. By bundling their common area with ours, it saves $1,000 in landscaping fees, $500 for each neighborhood to utilize how they wish each year. Sharing a website saves in fees as well as time and effort. Many updates and events going on in the Madison Park neighborhood are inclusive to Parkside. We can share our main page, pool updates, food trucks, and other fun things all in the same place!
